Bringing an Ageing Website Back Up to Date
A website can keep looking perfectly fine on the front end while problems slowly build behind the scenes.
That was the challenge with Enriched Life Therapies.
The website had been serving the business for years, but its underlying technology was ageing. Themes, plugins, page-building tools and website standards had all moved forward, making the existing site increasingly difficult to maintain and update.
Top Gong Digital Marketing was brought in to modernise the website while retaining the established look and feel that Enriched Life Therapies’ clients already recognised.
The project became a great example of an important lesson for every business owner:
Launching a website isn’t the end of the job. Keeping it healthy is just as important.
What Happens When a Website Gets Old?
Websites are built using a collection of moving parts.
WordPress changes. Plugins release new versions. PHP and hosting technology evolve. Search engines update their requirements. Security standards improve. Browsers change the way they display websites.
When those individual components aren’t regularly maintained, they can gradually fall out of step with each other.
At first, you might not notice anything.
Then a plugin stops behaving properly.
A page becomes difficult to edit.
An update causes unexpected formatting problems.
Forms stop working the way they should.
Or an old piece of software can no longer safely be updated without affecting something else.
This is what we call technical debt — and the longer it is left, the harder it can become to untangle.
Updating Enriched Life Therapies
Rather than trying to endlessly patch an ageing setup, Top Gong created a staging version of the Enriched Life Therapies website and began modernising it in a controlled environment.
The goal wasn’t to throw away a website and brand that Lynda Rich had spent years building.
It was to retain what worked while improving what was happening underneath it.
The project included reviewing and modernising the website structure, improving how pages could be maintained, updating SEO foundations and making sure the website could continue to grow alongside the business.
We also used the opportunity to improve important content throughout the site.
More Than Technical Maintenance
Once the technical foundations were stronger, we could turn our attention to how well the website was actually working for the business.
Content was reviewed and reorganised around Lynda’s primary service, Quantum Healing Hypnosis Technique (QHHT).
Important information about Lynda’s experience as a Level 3 QHHT Practitioner became much more prominent.
The site was also strengthened with:
- clearer service information
- improved page structure
- updated testimonials
- stronger calls to action
- improved internal linking
- dedicated SEO optimisation
- refreshed page titles and descriptions
- FAQs answering common client questions
- improved location targeting for Wollongong, Sydney and surrounding areas
- redirects for older or outdated website content
- a structure that makes future content easier to add and maintain
The result wasn’t simply a healthier website behind the scenes.
It was a more useful marketing asset.
Why Regular Website Maintenance Matters
One of the biggest misconceptions about websites is that once they’re launched, they’re finished.
They’re not.
A business may still be operating from the same location and providing the same service, but the technology powering its website continues to change.
Ignoring updates for several years can eventually turn a straightforward maintenance job into a much larger rebuild.
Regular maintenance helps keep a website:
- secure
- compatible
- fast
- editable
- backed up
- search-engine friendly
- functioning properly across modern devices and browsers
It also means problems can usually be dealt with when they’re small — rather than after several years of technical issues have accumulated.
The Result
Enriched Life Therapies now has a refreshed website that retains the character of the original business while providing a much stronger foundation for the future.
Visitors can clearly understand who Lynda is, what QHHT involves, where sessions are held and how to book.
Behind the scenes, the website is also in a much better position to be maintained, optimised and expanded over time.
And that’s the real lesson from this project.
A website doesn’t have to look broken to need attention.
Keeping the technology behind your website updated is what helps make sure it keeps doing its job, today, next year and well beyond.
